Beck Awarded Two ULI Austin 2016 Impact Awards
- Jan 14, 2016
Two projects built by Beck’s team in Austin were awarded a 2016 Impact Award by the Urban Land Institute of Austin.
- The Thinkery won the Public Places Category. The award recognizes a project that provides the public with enhanced civic, open or public space access or experiences. The Thinkery, located just north of downtown Austin is a learning center like no other in its innovative approach. Children have the freedom to explore in a rich environment, from playing in the outdoor EnviroGarden to tinkering in one of The Thinkery’s workshops.
- The W.H. and Elaine McCarty South Tower at Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas won the People’s Choice Award, through a live vote at the event. The six-bed rehabilitation unit for seriously injured children is the first of its kind in the Austin area for hospitalized children. Featuring 72 beds and a state-of-the-art epilepsy monitoring unit, allowing the hospital to better serve its patients who travel worldwide for specialized treatment, the facility opened to the public two months earlier than originally scheduled. The project was the first building in the world to achieve LEED for Healthcare (LEED–HC) Platinum certification.
ULI Austin’s Annual Impact Awards are an opportunity to recognize and celebrate projects and people throughout Greater Austin that exemplify ULI’s mission: to provide leadership in the responsible use of land and in creating and sustaining thriving communities worldwide.
