Renaissance Dallas Receives TEXO Distinguished Building Award
- Jan 19, 2016
TEXO, the Construction Association, recently awarded the first place Distinguished Building Award to The Beck Group for the Renaissance Dallas ballroom addition in the Design-Build 2 Category for projects ranging from – million.
The 2015 TEXO Distinguished Building Award winners were carefully selected based on several criteria including difficulty in construction resulting from design, location and materials, unusual construction techniques involved, final appearance and quality of the finished product and timeliness of completion.
“We are thrilled to receive first place in our category and grateful to the Marriott family and to TEXO for recognizing Beck’s commitment to our clients, skilled design team and passion for completing iconic projects with the highest standards of quality and care,” said Jay Chung, associate principal of design at Beck. “By using our integrated approach to design, construction and sustainability, we fostered a unique collaboration with the Marriott family and Renaissance Dallas Hotel that resulted in a modern space that is not only functional and beautiful, but also upholds Marriott’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.”
The Beck Group began construction of the 30,000-square-foot addition on March 7, 2013, and completed the LEED Silver certified project on November 20, 2014, with no lost time accidents. The entire addition includes a 16,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom which boasts floor-to-ceiling glass windows, 24-foot vaulted ceilings, skylight crystal chandeliers, a state-of-the-art AV system and remote controlled screens and accommodates up to 1,500 guests. The City View Terrace is just an elevator ride above the Grand Ballroom offering breathtaking, expansive views of the entire downtown Dallas skyline. The interior includes 6,000-square-feet of event space catering to large-scale weddings and social soirees complete with a 4,000-square-foot outdoor terrace with a retractable canopy, ambient lighting and sweeping city views. The Renaissance Dallas Hotel now boasts 50,000-square-feet of flexible meeting and event space.
“We could not be more pleased with the event and meeting space addition that Beck executed,” said Mark Woelffer, general manager of the Renaissance Dallas Hotel. “Not only was the team professional, talented and very much in tune with the Renaissance guests’ needs, but they went above and beyond to ensure the project stayed on schedule during the building process. The final product pays homage to our iconic “lipstick building” while seamlessly adding a contemporary element that sets the Renaissance Dallas Hotel apart from any other property in the metroplex.”
The judges were especially impressed by The Beck Group’s ability to overcome structural complications to the existing building that were not realized until construction had begun. A lack of exterior sheathing and waterproofing forced the team to come up with a plan B before moving forward with the renderings. Additionally, the judges gave praise to the design team’s eye for detail regarding the blending of the original granite with the new granite façade. The team’s commitment to authenticity led them to seek out the original granite supplier in Cold Springs, Texas, where they were able to find a near-perfect match of the stone.
The Renaissance Dallas Hotel is one of only 16 family-owned properties within the JWM Family Enterprises portfolio of hotels. The Beck Group was given the rare opportunity to collaborate directly with the Marriott family and executives to fully realize and execute the goals, vision and unique details planned for the Renaissance Dallas Hotel while creating a consistent look and feel under the Marriott Hotels® umbrella.
