Beck’s Bi-Annual Cost Report: Winter 2017

  • Dec 13, 2017

Twice a year our estimating teams publish a Cost Report addressing the major markets and offices that The Beck Group serves.

In our Winter 2017 report, we share news on the construction industry and its signs of growth in our major markets. Overall, we continue to see solid opportunities across a variety of market sectors.

With a robust market comes the need to find experienced and qualified subconsultants, but availability of skilled labor remains the industry’s biggest challenge, a trend we’ve consistently seen in prior years’ reports. The lack of skilled labor drives up costs because subconsultants have the flexibility to be strategic about the jobs that they take on.

This trend also affects schedules, as lack of availability makes securing labor difficult. It’s still too soon to quantify the full effect of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma on construction costs, but price increases on materials such as drywall and PVC are the most common reported impact of the rebuild and repair efforts from the storms.
