Beck’s Biannual Cost Report: Fall 2016

Twice a year our estimating teams publish a Cost Report addressing the major markets and offices that The Beck Group serves.

Several trends related to the busy construction market were noted in the Fall 2016 edition.

  • The commercial construction sector is expected to be a strong performer for the remainder of the year. Next year, the commercial sectors are expected to see slower, yet healthy levels of growth.
  • Construction firms continue to complain about a lack of appropriately trained workers and construction wages are rising.
  • Architectural firms reported that the value of new design contracts continued to increase in September. While the pace of growth slowed modestly from August, firms signing contracts for new work indicates future billings down the road.
  • Both nonresidential construction input prices and overall prices fell in August 2016 as energy prices retrenched.
