The Beck Group Completes Construction of Denver’s Iconic Populus Hotel, Bringing Sustainable Luxury to the Mile-High City

The Beck Group proudly announces the grand opening of Populus, Denver’s newest landmark in sustainable luxury. The 265-room urban hotel, developed by Urban Villages and designed by Studio Gang, marks a pivotal moment in environmentally conscious hospitality as the first carbon-positive hotel in the U.S.

The Populus Hotel embodies Beck’s forward-thinking approach, blending innovative construction with nature-inspired aesthetics. Its eye-catching façade, modeled after the aspen tree (Populus tremuloides), integrates sustainable materials and advanced eco-conscious practices.

Beck partnered with Studio Gang as a design-assist partner to bring this vision to life. The firm meticulously crafted the building’s complex patterns and panels to capture natural light, enhance energy efficiency, and maintain environmental harmony.

Populus Boasts Unique Sustainable Features

One of the hotel’s signature green features is its rooftop, which Superbloom Landscape Architecture designed. This green space includes native trees and vegetation that enrich downtown Denver’s biodiversity. Additionally, Populus launched the “One Night, One Tree” program, committing to planting a tree in Colorado’s forests for every night booked.

Beck also prioritized carbon reduction in its construction methods. Populus showcases multiple sustainable strategies. It boasts low-carbon concrete and renewable energy systems and eliminates on-site parking, contributing to its impressive carbon-positive status.

The hotel’s striking “Aspen-eye” windows change in size throughout the structure. They seamlessly integrate form with function, bringing natural light into its spaces while optimizing energy performance.
