Tec de Monterrey Names Beck Design-Builder of TecSalud Campus

  • Mar 31, 2024

Tec de Monterrey awarded The Beck Group the design and construction contract for its new TecSalud Health Sciences Campus. It will be located at its flagship healthcare facility, Zambrano Hellion Hospital, in Monterrey, Mexico.

Envisioned as the premier private academic health center in Mexico and Latin America, the TecSalud Health Sciences Campus will provide healthcare of the highest quality and safety standards in this region. The project will also help the university consolidate its facilities.

The health sciences campus will be the new site for the University’s School of Medicine and Health Sciences. The school will include two buildings covering approximately 322,900 square feet. They will house more than thirty classrooms and twelve laboratories. Plans also call for new simulation labs for its medical education program.

Design is underway, and construction will start next year. It is planned to be completed in the summer of 2027.

Design to Emphasize Clean and Elegant Features, Flexible Spaces

The project’s design will complement features used for the university’s other buildings, emphasizing a clean and elegant aesthetic. Its design will also include flexible spaces that can be quickly adapted to meet the needs of the ever-evolving healthcare industry.

School officials traveled to the campuses of leading U.S. medical schools to view various design elements used for the buildings. The trip helped support their vision for the TecSalud Health Sciences Campus.

Past Projects, Deep Understanding of Goals Led to Contract Win

Beck’s award-winning work on other Tec de Monterrey projects and its ability to easily grasp the school’s specific building goals of this magnitude led to the firm winning the project.

In past years, the firm designed multiple projects at its Monterrey campus, including the Wellness Center and Banorte Stadium. Beck also designed and built the university’s academic buildings and library at the Mexico City campus.

TecSalud Project to Significantly Enhance School’s Leadership

Building the medical school near the Zambrano Hellion Hospital, which will be expanded, and new research facilities will play a vital role in positioning the campus as a leader in healthcare education and delivery. It will further elevate Tec de Monterrey’s reputation as one of the world’s leading academic centers.

During the project’s launch ceremony, Guillermo Torre, Rector of TecSalud, said: “The key aspect of this project lies in the opportunity for learning, as it arises from the convergence of three distinct groups—students, doctors, and researchers—working within the same environment to tackle shared challenges and devise solutions.”
