Inside Beck’s Decision to Open a Permanent Raleigh Office
- Jun 8, 2026
A conversation with Ryan Horne, Beck’s Raleigh Office Leader
After decades of delivering projects across North Carolina, The Beck Group recently established a permanent office in Raleigh. We sat down with Ryan Horne to discuss why now is the right time and what it means for the city’s future.
Q: What made this the right moment for Beck to open an office in Raleigh?
We have been active in North Carolina for years. Over time, the level of work and the type of projects here began to shift. The number of clients we have in the area has increased, and the projects have become larger, more complex, and longer-term.
Establishing a permanent presence was a natural next step. Being here allows us to stay closer to clients, strengthen local relationships, and deepen our investment in the community.
Q: How is Raleigh different from other markets you have worked in?
There is a strong culture of collaboration in the North Carolina. Counties coordinate. Institutions think regionally. Business leaders align around shared priorities. That creates stability and enables long-term planning.
Growth feels intentional here. It is not just expansion for its own sake. That kind of environment supports better projects and better outcomes.

Q: What sectors are shaping the region right now?
Undoubtedly, the continued growth of the science and technology sector is a major force. As a result, there is a need for major investments in Healthcare to support the growing population. Systems like Duke, UNC, and WakeMed are expanding in ways that will shape the region for decades. These systems’ projects demand industry knowledge, coordination and long-term thinking.
Higher education continues to evolve in its own way, as does commercial development, which responds to population growth and changing expectations around urban living.
Q: How does Beck fit into this moment?
As projects increase in scale and complexity, integration becomes more important. Our approach brings architecture and construction together from the beginning. That alignment allows for clearer decision-making and stronger execution.
Clients benefit from having one team accountable for vision and delivery. In a market like Raleigh, where projects are growing in ambition, that matters.

Q: Beck has worked in North Carolina for years. How does this office build on that history?
We have delivered work across the state, including projects at Duke University, the Omni Grove Park Inn, and for Atrium Health.
Today, our ongoing work at Duke, as well as on the Lenovo Center Sports and Entertainment District and the Raleigh Outdoor Recreation Complex, continues that investment. Opening an office in Raleigh formalizes what has already been true for years: North Carolina is an important market for Beck. A permanent presence allows us to be even more responsive to clients, strengthen local relationships, and engage more deeply in the community.
We are invested in North Carolina, both personally and professionally, and committed to its future.
Q: What excites you most about what comes next?
Raleigh continues to attract talent, innovation, and investment, creating tremendous opportunities for the region. What excites me most is helping shape growth in a way that strengthens communities, supports long-term needs, and preserves the character that makes North Carolina such a special place to live and work.
I’m excited about the role Beck can play in that future.
