The Beck Group to Design and Build The Dalí Museum Expansion

The Beck Group will design and build The Dalí Museum expansion in St. Petersburg, Florida, helping one of the world’s most recognized cultural institutions enter its next chapter.

The approximately 35,000-square-foot addition will introduce new gallery, learning, and community spaces designed to support immersive experiences and expanded public engagement.

Construction is expected to begin in 2026, with the expansion anticipated to open in 2028.

Expanding a Global Cultural Destination

Since opening in St. Petersburg in 1982, The Dalí has welcomed more than 10 million visitors. The current building, completed in 2011, has generated more than $1 billion in economic impact for the Tampa Bay region.

The new addition will expand the Museum’s ability to serve both local audiences and international visitors through immersive exhibitions, education programs, and community events.

“We are creating a museum that will stand with the great cultural institutions of the world,” said Hank Hine, Executive Director of The Dalí Museum. “This moment is not about being bigger. It is about being bolder. The expansion allows us to create space for deeper learning, more ambitious experiences, and broader access.”

Designing the Museum of the Future

Beck’s architecture team is designing a state-of-the-art addition that builds on the Museum’s distinctive identity while introducing new ways for visitors to engage with art.

The expansion will include:

• Flexible galleries for experiential exhibitions blending art and technology
• A dedicated learning center for K–12 students and lifelong learners
• Community spaces designed for social, corporate, and cultural events
• A striking new exterior that extends the architectural language of the existing building

The addition will work together with the Museum’s current galleries, theater, dome, and Avant-garden to create a dynamic campus that reflects how guests engage with art today and in the future.

“The exterior design, what we call Reveal, plays with expectation,” said Trevor Lamphier, AIA, Design Principal at The Beck Group. “It extends and reinterprets the existing building, using familiar materials in new ways to create moments of discovery. Like Dalí’s work, the architecture invites a double take, rewarding curiosity and encouraging visitors to slow down and look again. This expansion is about creating an environment that inspires wonder, deepens engagement and strengthens the Museum’s role as an anchor for the community.”

A Longstanding Partnership

Beck constructed the Museum’s current building and has worked closely with The Dalí to shape this next chapter. During the design process, Beck consulted with internationally recognized architect Yann Weymouth, FAIA, who designed the original building, to ensure continuity across the campus.

The approximately 35,000-square-foot expansion represents a $65 million investment in the Museum’s future.

The Dalí Museum Expansion Groundbreaking is anticipated in fall 2026. The Museum will remain open throughout construction.
