More than just a hot meal and a warm bed, Austin Street Center is the largest low-barrier shelter in Dallas that serves men, ages 45 and older, and women, ages 18 and older. Each person who finds shelter at Austin Street Center is provided a safe place to sleep, showers, clothing, and meals. Since the first facility opened in 1983, Beck has maintained a long-standing relationship with Austin Street and was honored to provide design, architecture, preconstruction, and a construction schedule of 13 months. The new facility is over 200% larger, allowing 100 additional beds and more clients to be served, while also providing room for 35 more support staff. In addition, the new campus addresses gaps in services by providing expanded mental health services, medical respite space, modern gender-specific retreats, a dining facility with a commercial kitchen, and an engagement center for employment, education, housing navigation, and stabilization. |
