The first completed project of Dallas College’s $1.1 billion bond package, the Construction Sciences building on the North Lake campus opened to students in April of 2021.

LEED Silver certified, 97,000-SF, two-story facility now supports high-quality instruction in purpose-built, interactive, high-tech classrooms with adjacent laboratories for teaching demonstrations and active learning. Covered exterior lab space allows for outdoor equipment use, mock-ups and assembly installation in various conditions and temperatures, as well as materials storage.

With the goal of the project to fill the gap in the construction industry and labor workforce, Dallas ISD Wilmer-Hutchins E-TECH Early College High School students were among the first to start their construction education in the new building. While the cost of attending four-year programs restricts access, these students will learn market-aligned skills and develop industry contacts for free. Plus, they will graduate high school with a certificate or associate degree along with their high school diploma.

16 certificate programs, nine continuing education programs, and four A.A.S degrees (Construction Management, Construction Technology, Construction Technology – Surveying Technician, and Commercial Electrical Technology) are offered. The facility’s laboratories provide hands-on learning opportunities in sheet metal fabrication, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, welding, and pipefitting.
