Episcopal School of Dallas’ Stephen B. Swann Athletic and Wellness Center is named in honor of founder Reverend Swann’s lifetime commitment to the school. The Wellness Center serves as the centerpiece of the school’s Wellness for Life Campaign, which focuses on the link between academic excellence, spirituality and physical well-being. ESD is the first school in Texas to work with Dr. Kenneth Cooper of The Cooper Institute to explore the role that physical education plays in helping students achieve healthy bodies and excel academically. Built by Beck, the center houses the Dining Commons, physical education center, student activity offices, indoor track, strength and conditioning and cardio work-out rooms, sports medicine facility, dance studio, wrestling room, campus bookstore, and laboratory where students can learn more about nutrition. Reflecting the school’s commitment to total wellness, the project’s focus on sustainable design and construction was recognized with LEED Gold certification.
