In response to the urgent healthcare needs of the Atlanta community, the Grady Memorial Hospital Critical Care Expansion project exemplifies innovative design-build practices and a commitment to delivering exceptional outcomes within an accelerated timeframe. With the unexpected closure of a nearby hospital, Grady anticipated a dramatic need for ICU beds and had to act swiftly.

The project’s scope involved adding two state-of-the-art, 26-bed critical care units on the ninth and tenth floors of Grady Memorial Hospital. Faced with a pressing need for expanded critical care facilities, the team embarked on a design-build journey that redefined efficiency and showcased ingenuity in healthcare construction.

The critical care expansion project unfolded with remarkable speed, setting a new standard for project timelines. The design, awarded in December 2022, swiftly transitioned into actionable plans, with drawings issued for permit by January 2023. Construction commenced in February, racing toward completion by October of the same year. This rapid pace was pivotal in meeting the urgent healthcare demands of our community.

Grady Memorial received a Gold Award for Healthcare from the Design-Build Institute of America-Southeast Region.
