The historic federal courthouse is the oldest building of significance in Tampa. Located in downtown, the four-story, 107-year-old courthouse, had been vacant for 13 years. The courthouse was given new life as a luxury hotel. Beck’s design and construction teams preserved many aspects of the building’s original features, including 20-foot ceilings, ornate fixtures and marble wainscoting. Offices and judges’ chambers were converted into hotel guest rooms, a granite wall that once enclosed a prisoner arrival sally port now serves as a privacy wall for the hotel swimming pool and the imposing ceremonial courtroom has a new life as the grand ballroom.
