The new Manatee Technical Institute main campus replaced MTI’s existing 50-year-old campus with a new state-of-the-art facility. The new facility was built to keep pace with the ever-growing educational demands of adult and career path students in Manatee and surrounding counties. The new facility is a sleek, modern building that brings all MTI’s programs under one roof. A key design feature is the multipurpose space that serves as the reception area, daily dining for 350 people, and as a gathering area that can seat 1,000 people for assemblies and special events. A portion of this multi-purpose space serves as an internet café for the adjacent media center, and a 170-seat teaching auditorium also opens to this multi-purpose space. Designed somewhat like a mall, this multi-purpose space and the connecting oversized corridors allow a complete line of sight into most program labs through large expanses of glass. Many programs are grouped together for interaction during class time, providing an atmosphere that is conducive to learning and personal and professional achievement. The building employed green building materials, systems and technologies. Green features include low VOC paints and furniture, highly insulated glass and shading devices and a photovoltaic roof.
