Centennial Hall replaced the oldest structure at St. Mark’s School of Texas with 30 new classrooms plus administration and faculty offices. The central dome is the new campus icon. The new Hoffman Center, which connects to an existing gymnasium, contains ten new classrooms and other program space. Beck was asked to design and build these two new structures in the middle of the busy St. Mark’s campus during the school year. The project included the demolition of three smaller buildings to build two new large ones. In addition to providing bigger classrooms, consolidating departments, and improving campus circulation, St. Mark’s wanted to establish a strong central quadrangle. The two buildings, along with the school’s library, form a well-defined quadrangle at the center of the historic campus. Underscoring St. Mark’s strong commitment to environmental sustainability, the project received LEED Silver certification.
