Erma Lowe Hall houses the School for Classical and Contemporary Dance. The 1921 building is one of the oldest on the TCU campus, originally serving as the school’s gymnasium and swimming pool. While a renovation in 1973 provided the dance school with a permanent home, the facility did not reflect the needs of modern students. Beck’s construction team provided an extensive demolition and reconstruction of the facility, taking it back to the original concrete structure. With high ceilings and ample natural light, the building provides ideal space creative dancers. The building houses three large studios. One studio converts into a theatre, and is fully equipped with an A/V booth, lighting instruments, projector, and theatrical curtains for production work. Adding public restrooms throughout the building allowed the school to make its new locker room private. After the renovation, the entire building is ADA accessible via a new elevator. Focused on sustainability, TCU mandates that all new and renovated buildings achieve a minimum of LEED Silver status. Under the leadership of Beck’s sustainability team, Erma Lowe Hall was certified LEED Gold.
