Sherley Hall was built in 1958 as an all-female dorm. As part of its effort to create an entirely residential campus, Texas Christian University completely renovated Sherley Hall and converted it to a co-ed facility to house 314 first year students. Men and women residents are divided by wings over three floors with a central common area on each floor. In addition to a variety of exterior improvements, Beck’s construction team added new study areas, a new front lobby and lounge areas with large LCD TV screens. Students also enjoy 36-seat mini-theater with 10-foot screen and surround sound. The hallway contains gaming stations. Windows were enlarged in the hallways to bring more light in. Beck also provided sustainability consulting for project, which was certified LEED Gold. As the first LEED certified building on the TCU campus, residents and guests can follow a touch-screen display about the building’s energy efficiency, “green” construction and more.
