The Beck Group provided integrated design-build services for the historic Candler Building’s adaptive reuse, one of downtown Atlanta’s oldest landmarks. Beck transformed the Candler Building from its original 1906 condition into The Candler Hotel, part of the Curio Collection by Hilton. The Candler Building, Atlanta’s first steel skyscraper, was built by Coca-Cola magnate Asa Griggs Candler.

The 17-story high-rise boutique hotel honors its past by maintaining the building’s original unique architectural features. Collaboration between Beck’s architecture and construction teams throughout the revitalization process proved to be a critical success factor in preserving its original features such as an ornately carved marble grand staircase and the development of solutions to solve unanticipated design challenges exposed during demolition.

The Candler Hotel preserves and celebrates both the building’s impressive interiors and its ornately carved marble and terra cotta exterior. Providing an authentic hotel experience for guests, the 265-guestroom hotel features the building’s iconic lobby, Beaux-Arts details, mosaic tile floors, and massive grey-veined marble columns. Among the hotel’s many upscale amenities is the By George restaurant.

The Candler Hotel is a 2020 Gold Key Award for Best Hotel Upper Midscale and Atlanta Preservation Center 2019 Award of Excellence in Historic Preservation.
