Soon after Sothern Theatres assumed the lease on The Theatres at Canal Place, it began to recreate the property. Working with Beck’s design team, the aging multiplex was completely rebuilt. Old cloth seats were replaced with high-back leather rockers with swivel trays, designed to accommodate food items from the theatre’s chef-driven cafe. Extra-wide rows make it easier for servers to access patrons. Risers were added to provide a “gentle” stadium seating configuration, improving sight lines. New screens, new projectors and new audio systems were installed. An outdated box office was removed and replaced with a pair of electronic ticketing kiosks.
