The University of North Texas welcomed the systems largest Denton campus construction project, that had not been touched since the 1970’s.

The new University of North Texas Student Union opened its doors in August of 2015. Nearly 45-years after its original opening in the 1970’s, the union finally got its long-awaited face lift by architecture firm Perkins + Will and construction by The Beck Group. Upon completion, the new student union doubled in the amount of student organization space from the original 17,000 students and 203,000-SF to the new 36,000 students an approx. 314,000-SF.

The $130 million project was a renovation and addition of the Student Union building. Scope included demolition back to existing structure as well as new constructions and an expansion. The LEED certified project included: new dining facilities, offices, meeting rooms, lounge/bar, 9,500-SF ballroom, and a 500-seat auditorium/theater. To allow the construction of the Student Union, all of the occupants were relocated into temporary facilities located off-site but still remaining on campus.
