BRIC: An Innovative Place for Innovation Space

It’s clear a project is going to be special when a team is asked to transform an abandoned tire factory into an educational space. But what about when that space will be home to diverse research requirements?

The Beck construction team was able to reuse over 80 percent of the General Tire building’s structural and shell elements, maintaining its existing foundations, floor slabs, building superstructure, and roof framing and decking. The resulting building – reskinned with smooth white concrete, brushed steel and shimmering glass – now serves as the home for the Baylor Research and Innovation Collaborative (BRIC).
